On July 4, the Hill Country (Kerr County) of Texas was decimated by a flash flood when the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes. As of Monday morning, 104 deaths have been confirmed, including 28 children. Families will be reeling from indescribable pain for months, and some for years. As Christians, we are motivated to bear the sorrows of our neighbors because Jesus did that for us (Isa. 53:4). So, we are asking for Christians in North Carolina to do so in two ways:
First, pray. Pray for all those who have lost their homes and businesses. But especially, pray for those who have lost their children at Camp Mystic and nearby campgrounds. These wounds will be carried for years. Ask the Father to sustain their faith and surround them with divine love.
Second, give financially. As North Carolinians, we understand the devastation of natural disasters. And we in the Triangle have consistently heard that no organization came to our rescue more than Samaritan’s Purse. Today, their recovery efforts began in Texas, cleaning properties and sharing the Good News of Jesus. You can give to Samaritan’s Purse here.
Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith. (Galatians 6:9–10, CSB)
